How to soundproof your car? Part 1
Car soundproofing. Unfortunately, good soundproofing is generally only available to owners of premium brands. In other models, the level of soundproofing is largely unsatisfactory. However, you don't have to accept this fact. You can soundproof individual parts of your car yourself if you have the necessary knowledge, or you can hire a specialist.
Why is a car soundproofed?
Drivers and passengers most often cite engine noise and wind hiss as irritating sounds in a car, and at speeds as low as 50 km/h, the noise is intensified by the tires. Economy tires, especially all-season tires, can be particularly loud. This list also includes damaged door seals, which allow airflow to penetrate at a much greater rate.
Everyone has a different tolerance for noise. However, everyone eventually runs out of patience. To drive safely, drivers need relative peace and quiet. Otherwise, they will become irritated and angry due to the cacophony of sounds. Noise can also reduce driver alertness and prevent them from hearing important audio signals.
Soundproofing your car is also a godsend for audiophiles. Even the best-performing audio system won't be able to fully express its capabilities because the sound will "escape." By soundproofing the cabin, you'll be able to communicate with your fellow passengers or talk to others via speakerphone without any interruptions or strain on the car.
Door soundproofing
Door soundproofing is done to improve the sound quality of the audio system inside the cabin and to reduce noise from outside. This will result in a much quieter driving environment.
Due to their construction, we can distinguish single- and double-layer mats. To soundproof doors, special bituminous mats should be used. These will provide some soundproofing for car doors, but mats made of butyl rubber are much more effective. The material from which they are made is characterized by high absorption and acoustic insulation.
It's also important to check the condition of the seals. They may be responsible for irritating noises leaking into the car's interior.
Before purchasing, it is worth paying attention to the maximum operating temperature and mechanical resistance.
