Reversing camera and sensor
Camera vs. Reversing Sensor – What's the Difference? Which to Choose?
When considering vehicle equipment upgrades, the choice often falls on equipment that provides better road control and, therefore, greater driving safety. Many drivers wonder whether it's better to invest in a dashcam or parking sensors. Contrary to appearances, making this decision isn't easy.
Car camera – how does it work?
The latest car models offer the option of a standard dashcam. However, it's much more common to have to purchase this type of equipment yourself. This device allows for a wider perspective of both the rear and front of the car. The camera is typically located on the bumper or license plate. The monitor is usually mounted in the dashboard. The image can also be projected onto the rearview mirror.
The main advantage of purchasing dashcams is the ability to record driving and situations in which other drivers break the law. In such cases, we can easily cite the footage as evidence. This is especially useful in the event of an accident, where a dishonest driver might try to manipulate the facts.
Reversing sensor – how does it work?
A parking sensor is an electronic system designed to detect obstacles that prevent parking. It alerts the driver when they misjudge the distance, protecting them from unpleasant consequences. Sensors located at the front and rear of the vehicle emit ultrasonic waves. Based on the time it takes for the reflected wave to return, they determine the distance of the obstacle and whether it no longer poses a threat.
Even the best drivers make mistakes. An efficient reverse parking sensor will help you park even in difficult spots. It will alert you whenever an obstacle gets too close.
What to choose?
So the question arises: dashcam or parking sensor? There's no clear answer. It depends on your expectations. Of course, the most important advantage of a camera is the enlarged field of view and the ability to record driving. However, in very unfavorable weather conditions, we won't always be able to detect every obstacle. That's when a parking sensor comes in handy. It will alert us with an audible signal even in inclement weather. Investing in both devices at the same time is a good solution.
